Union Jack Oil said it is now allowed to use oil-based fluid during drilling and testing operations at its West Newton gas discovery after the U.K. Environment Agency has given its approval.
The London-listed energy company said Wednesday that the use of oil-based drilling fluids will be a key factor in enhancing flow rates from wells drilled in the West Newton field, located on the west coast of England.
“Union Jack looks forward to the drilling of a 1,500 meter horizontal well and unlocking the significant potential of the West Newton project,” Executive Chairman David Bramhill said.
Union Jack Oil holds a 16.67% stake in the West Newton license. The company said it is fully funded for the drilling and testing of the horizontal well.
