GrafTech International Chief Executive Marcel Kessler is stepping down because of family reasons, effective Nov. 15.
GrafTech, a producer of graphite electrodes used by steelmakers who operate electric arc furnaces, said Thursday its board has appointed Timothy Flanagan, its current chief financial officer, as interim CEO and president. It has retained a search firm to find a permanent replacement and is considering both internal and external candidates.
Kessler will resign from the company at the end of the year but continue to serve on the company’s board.
Catherine Hedoux-Delgado, the current vice president, corporate controller of the company, will serve as interim CFO. Both Flanagan and Hedoux-Delgado will assume their new roles Nov. 15.
Flanagan became GrafTech’s CFO in November 2021. He previously held leadership roles at Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., a flat-rolled steel producer and supplier of iron-ore pellets.
